Daniel Newcomb Chapter, DAR activities include:
· Sponsoring Good Citizen Awards for high school students. Each year, we select a "Good Citizen" from local high schools.
· An American History contest for junior high school students.
· Sponsoring Jr. ROTC awards that are granted to student cadets of outstanding ability and achievement in college or university Jr. ROTC programs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the Naval Sea Cadet Units. The Jr. ROTC program is such an important source of trained officers for our armed forces.
· Volunteer service for local historic preservation activities. Examples include the GAR Hall in Yankton and the Carnegie Library in Armour. Platte held a birthday party at the library with a theme celebrating Benjamin Franklin's 200th birthday.
· Sponsoring public genealogical workshops. Our members have participated in workshops in Pierre and Yankton. |
